far pastures and a pre roost gathering

far pastures turned up the goods today with 2 wintering chiffchaffs! also 2 skiens of pink footed geese over (1st 126, 2nd 97), also new for the year at fp for me nuthatch, willow tit,goldcrest, pied wag, buzzard and treecreeper. kingfisher was the star at shibdon this am, taking my gateshead year list to 61. no sign of any med gulls on the tyne at the black headed gull pre roost gathering near costco, but 2000+ bhgulls put on a great show. film only shows some of the birds coming to the mudflats.

                                              

2013 birding holidays booked

Thats this years hols booked, 9 days in norfolk and 2 weeks on shetland. Should produce some cracking birds from this years hols? Cant wait.

things can only get better

not the best start to the new year for me, my worst ever new years day total 40 species. 2nd jan, a little gull was reported at shibdon pond at the time i was there, but i couldnt see anything? 3rd jan i dipped 2 birds, a med gull was at shibdon, but it had flew by the time the sky fitter left my house :-( also dipped on the reported 7 waxwings at lamesley. 4th jan i thought id get an early start at shibdon for gulls, at 8am there was well over 1000 gulls 'ooh' unfortunatly they were flushed by a colleague :-( you know who you are 'bad man' :-) lol. not to worry though 'things can only get better.

new year new blog

thought i would start a blog to log my daily sightings of birds and wildlife, also display photos and film. most will be in my local area, but i will post my sightings and any photos i get from twitches and holidays throughout the year. hope you enjoy my blog.
